Information: Rig Setup
Monero uses the RandomX proof-of-work algorithm. To mine Monero through Mining Rig Rentals, you need to rent or list hashrate under the RandomX (XMR) algorithm.
Do not use CryptoNight rigs for Monero. CryptoNight was used by Monero in the past, but it is no longer the correct algorithm for mining Monero.
Important: Monero does not use CryptoNight anymore
Older Monero mining guides may refer to CryptoNote, CryptoNight, XMR-Stak, Claymore CryptoNight, ccminer-cryptonight, or other legacy mining software.
Those instructions are outdated for modern Monero mining.
Current Monero mining uses RandomX. If you try to mine Monero with a CryptoNight rig or CryptoNight miner, the miner may connect incorrectly, submit invalid shares, or fail to mine Monero entirely.
Before renting or listing hashrate for Monero, make sure the algorithm is RandomX (XMR).
Renting hashrate to mine Monero
To mine Monero as a renter:
- Choose the RandomX (XMR) algorithm.
- Select a rig with suitable hashrate, price, region, rental duration, and reputation.
- Add your Monero pool information.
- Use the pool’s required wallet, worker, and password format.
- Start the rental.
- Confirm that the pool is receiving accepted shares.
Your pool settings must match the pool’s instructions. Some pools require a wallet address only, while others allow or require a worker name, fixed difficulty setting, or password parameter.
Connection status alone is not enough. Always confirm that the pool is receiving accepted shares.
Choosing a Monero pool
Monero can be mined using a traditional pool, P2Pool, or solo mining. Monero’s own mining documentation notes that Monero can be mined solo or in a pool, and also encourages P2Pool for decentralized pool mining.
For Mining Rig Rentals, most renters will use a pool that accepts normal RandomX stratum mining connections.
Before starting a rental, confirm:
- the pool supports Monero RandomX,
- the pool URL and port are correct,
- the pool accepts rented hashrate,
- the wallet address format is correct,
- any worker name or password field is entered correctly,
- the pool region is reasonable for the rented rig location.
If the pool is far from the rig, stale shares may increase because of latency.
Pool difficulty
RandomX pools may use variable difficulty or allow fixed difficulty.
If the difficulty is too low, the miner may submit too many shares. If the difficulty is too high, shares may arrive less often and hashrate reporting may look unstable over short periods.
When renting a RandomX rig, use the pool’s recommended difficulty settings when available. If the pool provides a rental-specific port or fixed-difficulty option, use the value recommended by the pool.
If your pool allows custom difficulty in the password field, follow the pool’s documentation exactly.
Expected hardware for Monero
RandomX is designed for general-purpose CPUs. Monero’s documentation states that Monero can be mined by CPUs and GPUs, but CPUs are much more efficient for RandomX.
Because of this, RandomX rigs may look different from ASIC-heavy algorithms. A RandomX rig may be a CPU server, workstation, or multi-CPU system rather than a typical ASIC miner.
Do not judge RandomX hashrate using expectations from SHA-256, Scrypt, Ethash, Equihash, or other algorithms. Hashrate numbers are algorithm-specific.
Mining software
For users operating their own RandomX rig, miner software must support RandomX and custom pool configuration.
Modern RandomX mining is commonly performed with software such as XMRig, which describes itself as a cross-platform RandomX CPU/GPU miner and stratum proxy.
Mining Rig Rentals does not need to maintain a permanent list of Monero miner downloads. Mining software changes over time, and old static lists become inaccurate.
A suitable RandomX miner should be able to:
- mine RandomX,
- connect to a custom pool address,
- use the worker and password fields required by Mining Rig Rentals,
- submit accepted shares,
- reconnect cleanly,
- report accepted, rejected, and stale shares,
- remain stable during the rental period.
Do not use old CryptoNight miner lists
Older Monero articles may mention software such as:
- XMR-Stak,
- Claymore CryptoNight miners,
- ccminer-cryptonight,
- xmrMiner,
- old cpuminer forks,
- old CryptoNight-specific CGMiner builds.
These references are legacy and should not be treated as current Monero setup guidance.
Some older software may still mine other CryptoNight-family coins, but that does not mean it can mine Monero today.
For Monero, the relevant algorithm is RandomX.
Checking that the rental is working
After the rental starts, check your pool dashboard.
Look for:

| Pool-side hashrate appears | Hashrate may take time to stabilize. |
| Wallet address is correct | Rewards must be credited to the intended wallet. |
Do not judge the rental only from the first few minutes. Pool-side hashrate may need time to stabilize, especially when share difficulty is high.
Common Monero rental problems
The pool does not show the worker
Possible causes:
- wrong pool URL,
- wrong port,
- wrong wallet address format,
- incorrect worker name,
- pool does not support the selected rental setup,
- DNS or network issue,
- rental pointed to the wrong pool profile.
Check your saved pool configuration and confirm the pool’s current connection instructions.
The worker appears but no shares are accepted
Possible causes:
- wrong algorithm,
- using CryptoNight instead of RandomX,
- wrong pool port,
- invalid wallet or login format,
- password field missing required parameters,
- pool difficulty too high,
- pool-side issue.
Confirm that the rented rig is RandomX (XMR) and that the pool supports Monero RandomX on the selected port.
High rejected shares
Possible causes:
- incorrect pool settings,
- miner or proxy incompatibility,
- wrong RandomX variant or coin mode,
- unstable rig,
- pool difficulty issue.
If the rig rejects shares on multiple pools, contact support with rental details and pool information.
High stale shares
Possible causes:
- pool server is too far from the rig,
- high network latency,
- packet loss,
- unstable pool server,
- proxy delay,
- overloaded renter pool.
Try a pool server geographically closer to the rented rig when possible.
Pool hashrate is lower than expected
Possible causes:
- hashrate reporting delay,
- high share difficulty,
- short rental duration,
- stale or rejected shares,
- unstable rig,
- pool-side calculation differences.
Compare pool-side hashrate over time, not only the first few minutes of the rental.
Listing a RandomX rig as a rig owner
If you are listing RandomX hashrate on Mining Rig Rentals, test the rig before making it available.
Before listing, confirm:
- the rig is listed under RandomX (XMR),
- miner software supports RandomX,
- the miner connects through Mining Rig Rentals,
- accepted shares increase on a known working Monero pool,
- rejected and stale shares are low,
- hashrate is stable,
- the advertised hashrate reflects real sustained performance,
- all workers remain connected,
- the rig survives normal operating temperatures and load.
RandomX is CPU-heavy. Make sure your system remains stable under sustained CPU load. Watch CPU temperature, memory stability, power limits, system load, and miner logs.
RandomX and resold hashrate
Some RandomX listings may come from external hashrate providers or resold sources.
These setups can work, but they are more likely to create compatibility and support problems because the rig owner may not control the actual hardware, miner software, pool routing, or logs.
If you are renting RandomX hashrate, review the rig description and recent performance carefully.
If you are listing resold RandomX hashrate, make sure the listing accurately represents the setup and that the hashrate can reliably mine through Mining Rig Rentals.
When to contact support
Contact Mining Rig Rentals support if:
- the rental is configured for RandomX but no accepted shares appear,
- the pool shows high rejected or stale shares,
- the rig appears online but does not deliver usable work,
- the pool works outside Mining Rig Rentals but fails during rental,
- worker data and pool data do not match.
Include:
- rental ID,
- rig ID or rig name,
- algorithm,
- pool URL and port,
- wallet or worker format used,
- screenshots of the pool dashboard,
- rejected and stale share counts,
- approximate time the issue occurred.
Clear pool-side evidence helps support determine whether the issue is renter-side, rig-side, pool-side, or platform-side.
Summary
To mine Monero today, use RandomX (XMR).
Do not use old CryptoNight Monero guides. Do not rent CryptoNight rigs for Monero. Do not rely on legacy Monero mining software lists.
