Equihash is a family of proof-of-work algorithms used by several coins and pools. When setting up an Equihash rig on Mining Rig Rentals, make sure your hardware, mining software, pool, and rig listing all use the same Equihash variant.

A miner that works for one Equihash variant may not work for another.

For example, Equihash 200,9, Equihash 144,5, Equihash 192,7, Equihash 96,5, and Equihash 210,9 are different mining configurations. Do not assume they are compatible with each other because they share the Equihash name.

Choose the correct Equihash variant

Before listing or renting an Equihash rig, confirm the exact algorithm variant required by the pool or coin.

Common Equihash-style variants include:

Variant Notes
Equihash 200,9 Commonly associated with original Equihash-style mining and ASIC-supported deployments.
Equihash 144,5 Used by some Equihash fork coins and GPU-focused miners.
Equihash 192,7 Used by some Equihash fork coins.
Equihash 96,5 Used by some Equihash fork coins.
Equihash 210,9 Used by some Equihash fork coins.
Other Equihash variants Some coins use additional parameter sets or modified Equihash algorithms.

The rig listing, miner command line, and renter pool must all match the same variant.

If the variant is wrong, the miner may connect but submit rejected shares, invalid shares, or no accepted shares at all.

Mining software compatibility

Mining Rig Rentals does not guarantee compatibility with every Equihash miner, miner version, ASIC firmware, or operating system image.

Mining software is generally suitable for Equihash rentals if it can:

  • mine the exact Equihash variant being listed,
  • connect to a custom pool or stratum address,
  • use the worker name and password provided by Mining Rig Rentals,
  • submit accepted shares through Mining Rig Rentals,
  • reconnect cleanly when needed,
  • report accepted, rejected, and stale shares,
  • remain stable for the full rental period.

The miner name alone does not guarantee compatibility. Always test the miner through Mining Rig Rentals before listing the rig.

GPU miners

GPU miners are still used for some Equihash variants, especially variants that were designed or adjusted to reduce ASIC advantage.

When using a GPU miner, verify that:

  • your GPUs are supported by the miner,
  • the miner supports your operating system,
  • the miner supports the exact Equihash variant,
  • the miner supports any required personalization string,
  • the miner works with your driver version,
  • all GPUs remain stable under load,
  • rejected and stale shares are low.

Some older Equihash miners may no longer be maintained. They may still work in some cases, but old software should be tested carefully before being used for rentals.

ASIC miners

Some Equihash variants are commonly mined with ASICs.

An Equihash ASIC is more likely to work with Mining Rig Rentals if its firmware allows:

  • custom pool URL configuration,
  • custom worker or username configuration,
  • custom password configuration,
  • backup pool configuration,
  • stable reconnect behavior,
  • correct algorithm or coin mode selection.

An ASIC may not be usable if it is locked to a manufacturer pool, uses restricted firmware, or does not allow custom pool settings.

Before listing an ASIC, confirm that it submits accepted shares through Mining Rig Rentals, not just directly to a pool.

Personalization strings

Some Equihash coins and pools require a personalization string, often called pers or --pers in miner software.

The personalization string changes how the Equihash work is interpreted. If it is wrong, the miner may appear to run but the pool may reject the shares.

Depending on the miner and pool, the personalization value may be:

  • set automatically,
  • selected by coin name,
  • entered manually,
  • included in a miner command-line option,
  • controlled by the pool or mining software.

If your miner supports automatic personalization, confirm that the pool supports it correctly. If shares are rejected, verify the required personalization string from the pool or coin documentation.

Pool and renter compatibility

For rentals, it is not enough for your rig to work with one pool. Renters may use different pools for the same Equihash variant.

Before listing the rig, test with a known working pool and confirm:

  • the miner connects through Mining Rig Rentals,
  • the pool accepts shares,
  • share difficulty stabilizes,
  • rejected shares remain low,
  • stale shares remain low,
  • hashrate reporting is reasonable,
  • the rig reconnects correctly.

If your setup only works with one specific pool or requires unusual miner flags, include clear information in the rig description or do not list it until compatibility is better understood.

Common Equihash setup mistakes

Wrong Equihash variant

This is the most common problem.

A miner configured for 144,5 will not correctly mine a pool expecting 192,7, 200,9, or another variant.

Check the algorithm selected in Mining Rig Rentals, the miner command line, and the renter pool.

Wrong personalization string

Some Equihash pools require a specific personalization string.

If the miner uses the wrong value, shares may be rejected even though the miner appears connected.

Check the pool’s documentation and your miner’s algorithm options.

Miner connects but no accepted shares

Connection status alone does not mean the setup is working.

If accepted shares are not increasing, check:

  • algorithm variant,
  • pool URL,
  • pool port,
  • worker name,
  • password field,
  • personalization string,
  • miner version,
  • rejected share messages,
  • stale share messages,
  • pool-side error messages.

Do not list the rig until accepted shares are confirmed.

Using outdated miner software

Old miners may still launch but fail under modern conditions.

Possible problems include:

  • unsupported drivers,
  • broken TLS support,
  • missing algorithm variants,
  • missing personalization support,
  • poor reconnect handling,
  • inaccurate hashrate reporting,
  • stale or rejected shares.

If an old miner is required, test it thoroughly before using it for rentals.

Assuming all Equihash pools behave the same

Pools may use different ports, worker formats, password options, difficulty settings, TLS requirements, and coin-specific parameters.

Always check the pool’s current connection instructions.

Testing an Equihash rig before listing

Before making an Equihash rig available for rent:

  1. Select the correct Equihash variant in the rig setup.
  2. Configure the miner or ASIC for the same variant.
  3. Set any required personalization string.
  4. Connect the rig through Mining Rig Rentals.
  5. Mine to a known working pool for that exact variant.
  6. Let the rig run long enough for share and hashrate reporting to stabilize.
  7. Confirm accepted shares are increasing.
  8. Confirm rejected and stale shares are low.
  9. Check the Workers tab for worker status, difficulty, and hashrate.
  10. Compare miner-side, pool-side, and Mining Rig Rentals hashrate.
  11. Set an accurate advertised hashrate based on stable performance.

Do not list the rig based only on the miner console showing hashrate. The rig must submit accepted shares through Mining Rig Rentals.

Summary

Equihash setup depends on the exact variant being mined.

Do not treat all Equihash algorithms as interchangeable. The miner, ASIC firmware, Mining Rig Rentals listing, and renter pool must all use the same Equihash variant and required parameters.

The best compatibility test is simple: connect through Mining Rig Rentals, mine to a known working pool, and confirm that accepted shares increase while rejected and stale shares remain low.
